Campus Corner Nightlife
The University of Oklahoma's "campus corner" is the best bar hopping "by foot" the state has to offer. Located in Norman, Oklahoma just north of the stadium where the Oklahoma Sooners play football.
On any given weekend there are a myriad of pubs, bars, and clubs you can easily walk to and as the drinks flow or as the evening goes on "swagger to and from".
As you hop from bar to bar you are greeted by wafting music from the many bands and entertainers inside the clubs or just playing their guitar outside on the curb on every weekend.
There are dozens of clubs where you can have drinks and listen to music and dance. All of the bars or clubs have charm and atmosphere. I have picked three places out of all of them for an evening on campus corner to get us started. They are "next door to each other" and is indicative and reflective of campus corner nightlife.
Totos
Toto's on 315 White Street is a campus corner icon.Toto's has been on campus corner for as long as I can remember. Its an Italian Restaurant and pub owned by the nicest man you will ever meet. He is originally from Italy. Years ago Toto's had brick arches throughout the place. The arches had plants of every kind and all were decorated with Christmas lights year round. You would more than likely hear Sinatra or Tony Bennett playing as you enter. Toto would greet you by name with a big smile and it is absolutely charming.
Toto's was a great place to get started pub crawling for me. He had some high end brandy and you could sit with him at his table and talk about his passion, Italy.
The Deli
The Deli is located right next door to Totos on 309 White Street. Years ago I believe the name of The Deli was Deli City because I think I remember calling it "silly city" after a few rounds. The Deli is usually packed. If you like music,dancing and reasonably priced beverages you are there.
They have bands galore. A long time ago they had reggae bands that would pack the house all night. There would be people dancing non stop till it closed. The Deli is a campus corner music and beer mecca.
Joe's Taverna
Joe's Taverna on 435 Buchanan is a hideaway pub. I am not sure if it still is but it used to be connected to Totos via a back hallway where you could go from place to place.
Joe's Taverna is run by nice gentleman named Joe. The place is quietly tucked away in campus corner but anyone on the corner can point you there.Joe's place makes excellent cocktails and the entertainment is usually classier and jazzy.
The best part about these three places is they are literally "next door to each other". Not only geographically but culturally and philosophically. The whole atmosphere of campus corner on a summer night is warm and inviting!
