Greg Kolodziejzyk
Greg Kolodziejzyk is the absolute guru of anything that is human powered. Check out his site here. Greg is still going to attempt a human powered boat trip from Canada to Hawaii as far as I know.
Dwight Collins
In 1992 Dwight Collins crossed the Atlantic in his human powered boat taking only 40 days to do so. Dwight said that at times he paddled or peddled his human powered watercraft up to 19 hours a day.
His boat was equipped with a reverse osmosis water maker for the trip and bunches of packages of fig newtons as part of his provisions for the trip.
Some of these types of boats have some kind of desalinization or water making capabilities for the voyages. He was said to have had sharks follow him on part of the trip!
Kenichi Horie
A 60 year old native of Japan peddled his boat from Hawaii to Japan in 1993 in his human powered boat called The Malts Mermaid. Mr. Horie has also traveled long voyages on solar powered boats, too.
Jason Lewis and Stevie Smith
In their major odyssey that circumnavigated the globe using various forms of human powered machines, Jason Lewis and Stevie Smith pedaled their boat called The Moksha and crossed the Atlantic starting from Portugal.
I would love to have a boat like these and the nerve to actually put it to sea. I find the courage, human endurance and technology to be fascinating!
