What is StumbleUpon?
StumbleUpon is a website that is designed to help internet surfers find sites or things of interest, on the internet that are similar in nature. It works by getting a consensus, via ratings and recommendations by other "stumblers" along with your own preferences and interests. As StumbleUpon's members view content, they can either give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down and that determines its quality, to a certain extent. It is sort of like a fine-tuned search engine with a personal touch. It is kind of a cross between a search engine and a social network.
StumbleUpon has been around since about 2001 and has an Alexa traffic ranking around 100, which is really good. StumbleUpon is a great site and is very effective for getting your blogs, sites or hubs, visibility. One really cool thing I like about StumbleUpon is their sharing tools. They have addons for certain browsers and they are also found on addthis sharing tools.
StumbleUpon has this great sharing button, called a StumbleUpon badge. A StumbleUpon badge is a sharing button that you can put on your blogs or sites. When someone comes to your site or blog, all they have to do is click on that StumbleUpon badge that you have placed there and it will post a link of your blog or site on StumbleUpon.
What I really like about these StumbleUpon badges or sharing buttons is how simple the code is. It is a very small amount of coding, about the size of a link. I have found from personal experience is that of all the sharing buttons or sharing badges of this type is that they don't slow the loading speed of whatever blog or site I put it on, in my opinion. They also have counters with the badges that show exactly how many other people have stumbled your page.
I think StumbleUpon is a gem of a site and is not only very beneficial for all the bloggers and site builders out there, but it's also very personal and unique, when browsing for interesting articles, blogs and sites.
